Not a sight you see every day – and not a sight our horses see every day!

Over the last week we have been working on the installation of a new fire detection system called the VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Alarm). The VESDA has been designed to provide the latest fire detection technology in the interests of protecting the safety of both horses and clients/members of the public at Centennial Parklands Equestrian Centre.

The Equestrian Centre features four main pavilions, each of which contain horse stables. They are named A Pavilion, B Pavilion, C Pavilion and D Pavilion (hey, not creative but historically functional!).

This particular project sees the VESDA being installed in A, B and D pavilions, however installing the system was a major challenge.

The roof in these pavilions are quite high. Due to the configuration of the stables within the pavilions, it become impossible to use scissor lifts or ladders for the full installation.

So, how to get to the top? Enter the abseilers!

Two adventurous contractors roped up and ascended to the soaring rooftops to install the pipework for the aspirating smoke detector system. B and D Pavilion were complete last week, while yesterday saw the completion of A Pavilion. Some minor works at ground level will continue until 23 August.

Below are some behind-the-scenes shots of the guys in action.

Book a ride yourself!

The Centennial Parklands Equestrian Centre has stables for around 200 horses, and houses five riding schools. If you have always wondered what it would be like to ride a horse, you can book a horse ride in Centennial Park today.

Or if your child has their heart set on a pony for their birthday (but you don’t quite have the room), then why not try the next best thing – book in  for a pony ride. We also run pony parties!

Have you visited Centennial Parklands Equestrian Centre? Do you ever visit the Pavilions back in the old Royal Easter Show days?
