Moore Park Golf, Australia’s oldest public golf course, now has another Australian-first under its belt, with the unveiling of $1.3 million in exciting new and redeveloped features to its driving range. The newly developed range, which features bright coloured targets with bespoke design features and FIFA grade ‘all weather’ turf, is unmatched in Australia right now, and it is set to take gaming with friends to a whole new level!
The full list of exciting new features includes:
- Custom designed targets with water and sand traps, islands, and real bunker shapes
- AFL and A-League grade solar-powered LED sports lighting at a level of 200 lux to make night practice clearer and improve energy efficiency
- 10,000 square metres of FIFA grade durable ‘all weather’ turf for simulated ball-on-grass movement
- 40,000 new balls and 60 new hitting mats
- 60 new LED touch-screen automated ball dispensers to improve game efficiency and cater to para-golfing visitors
What is so exciting about these new features?
These features add new levels of efficiency and ‘gamification‘ to your practice sessions or games with friends. That means more fun ways to compete for points and test your skills, with faster mechanics that keep your game moving along! (Think about the speed at which your ball moves and returns to you on that fancy new FIFA grade turf, or how you might beat a friend, by landing a ball on the hole targets, rather than in the bunker zones.)
While people talk about golf as a sport at risk of decline, it’s exciting to see that Moore Park Golf is leading the charge, driving opportunities for game-changing innovation!
More to celebrate
The upgrade represents the final phase of $1.9 million in works invested by Centennial Parklands to improve the facility over the past year, which includes revitalisation of the historic golf house. It also represents Moore Park Golf’s transition as one of Australia’s most environmentally friendly golf courses!
The new redeveloped driving range boasts a host of environmentally friend upgrades such as solar-powered LED lighting and water saving ‘all weather’ turf, marking a new era of innovation in the game and in golf course management.
An event was held last Friday to officially open the new facility to the public, with industry representatives, golfing media and friends of Moore Park Golf such as James Gribble, the founder of Empower Golf Australia.
The crowd celebrated with a spot of practice. Check out some of the great photos from the event below!
The new driving range is now open 7 days a week with late night bookings available from Tuesday – Sunday. For more information, visit the Moore Park Golf website.
