Over the last three years we have noticed a growing trend in visitors to the Parklands riding their bikes to attend events. This is one trend we’re happy to support.

We have an estimated one million cycling visits a year made to Centennial Parklands, and to meet this growth in cycling to events we have been providing new infrastructure and services, including:

  • providing new permanent bike racks into the refurbished Belvedere Amphitheatre, supporting cyclists to Moonlight Cinema and other events held at the site; and
  • in 2014 we trialled a free bike valet service at Tropfest in Centennial Park. The response to this trial was overwhelming, and the bike valet is now a permanent fixture at that event.

We are now extending this support to patrons of events and activities in Moore Park through provision of new safe and accessible bike racks along Driver Avenue.

We will monitor usage of the three new bike rack stations, and if demand is there – and as funding becomes available – we will increase the quantity of racks over the coming year.
